Arizona Summers Bring Wildfire Dangers - Call SERVPRO of Gilbert/Chandler South/Ahwatukee and South Tempe

1/16/2024 (Permalink)

With summer around the corner so are Arizona wildfires. Wildfires can strike almost anywhere.  Whether started by lightning strikes or by human negligence, wildfires can be one of the most destructive and powerful forces of nature.

The threat of wildfires, though generally thought to be a problem for rural areas, can spread to suburbs and other populated areas.  Every year, wildfires burn across the U.S. and more people are living where wildfires are a real risk.

Here are some friendly tips about safety during these seasons. Residents need to work together to make their neighborhoods and much safer from wildfires. Maintaining the landscaping, keeping your lawn hydrated and keeping your property clear of debris are easy and effective ways to prevent fuel for wildfires. Move flammable materials like propane tanks and wood piles at least 30 feet from your home foundation.

Make an Emergency Supply Kit which includes items like non-perishable food, water, flashlights and batteries and a battery powered radio. This kit can be made portable and be kept in your car or an easily accessible area of your home.

If fire damages your property, it can throw your life into chaos. Even if your property doesn’t suffer fire damage, there may be smoke and soot residues left to clean up. If cleaned improperly, the effects and odors can linger long after the fire is put out. From the structure to the contents, SERVPRO of Gilbert/Chandler South/Ahwatukee and South Tempe used the latest training and technology to leave your property smelling fresh and clean.

Smoke Residue And Odor Removal In Gilbert Homes After A Fire

1/9/2023 (Permalink)

Once a fire has occurred in your Gilbert residence, homeowners struggle with the steps necessary to return their property to preloss condition as quickly as possible. While many homeowners could attest that restoring their house on their own is beyond their capability or skill set, they also do not know when the best time to call in professional restoration is. Our team can arrive quickly at the extinguishment of a fire to offer practical solutions for the widespread effects from the fire in your home such as smoke and soot damage.

Smoke and fire damage in your Gilbert home can appear in multiple ways once the first responders have left. Many variables also determine the severity of the situation, including the type of smoke that occurred during the fire. Dry smoke is from a hotter fire that often leaves a powdery layer on surfaces and contents that is much easier for our SERVPRO technicians to clean. Wet smoke is more of a smoldering fire, and leaves a thick residue on surfaces in affected areas that are much more challenging to remove.

The determination about what your home needs gets decided by our SERVPRO estimator and other professionals initially dispatched to your address for assessment and preliminary mitigation work. Through this thorough inspection, our technicians can catalog the full scope of the damage and determine the best equipment and personnel required to remove these effects.

With smoke residue, our team has advanced equipment like high-powered vacuums, powered bristle brushes, and conventional cleaning approaches to remove residue and soot from surfaces and contents that have stayed in the home beyond the pack-out process. Deodorization of the foul odor that smoke often leaves behind gets taken care of throughout the open areas and affected materials with industry-leading equipment like our thermal foggers. These machines can permanently eliminate noxious odors throughout the house.

Fires can leave many damaging effects throughout your home. Our SERVPRO of Gilbert, Chandler S., Ahwatukee and S. Tempe's rapid response team can help you to understand the severity of the situation and work quickly to return your home to its original condition. Give us a call anytime at (480) 558-7620.

Watch Out for Wildfires

7/22/2022 (Permalink)

Wildfires can strike almost anywhere. Whether they're ignited by lightning strikes, human error, or some other force, fire can be an incredibly destructive force of nature.

The threat of wildfires, though generally thought to be a problem in rural areas, can spread to suburbs and other populated areas as well; causing highly extensive damage. However, homeowners can implement changes to protect their homes. These changes include practices such as landscaping maintenance, keeping your lawn hydrated, and keeping your property clear of debris to prevent fuel for wildfires. It is also important to move flammable materials like propane tanks and wood piles at least 30 feet from your home's foundation.

Another tip, for the ultra-prepared, is to make an Emergency Supply Kit; including items like non-perishable food, water, flashlights and batteries and a battery-powered radio. This kit can be made portable and be kept in your car.

If fire does damage your property, it can throw your life into chaos. Whether it be a weakened frame, compromised foundation, or smoke and soot residues left to clean up, SERVPRO's state-of-the-art training and technology will leave your property looking and smelling fresh and clean.

SERVPRO Wishes You a Happy Fourth of July!

7/3/2022 (Permalink)

With the Fourth of July weekend upon us, it’s important to be aware that not all fireworks are created equal. Unlike some areas in the country, Arizona has strict limitations as to what types of permissible fireworks are legal and safe for consumers to use as well as what days of the calendar year these “permissible” fireworks can be used. Some of the allowed permissible fireworks between the dates of May 4-6,  June 24 - July 6 and Dec. 24 - Jan. 3 are:

  • Ground and handheld sparkling devices
  • Cylindrical fountains
  • Cone fountains
  • Illuminating torches
  • Wheels
  • Ground spinners
  • Toy smoke devices
  • Wire sparklers or dipped sticks
  • Multiple tube ground and ground and handheld sparkling devices, cylindrical fountains, cone fountains and illuminating torches.

Be aware that anything that is designed to rise into the air and explode or detonate or designed to fly above the ground such as bottle rockets, sky rockets, missile-type rockets, helicopters, aerial spinners, torpedoes and roman candles are considered illegal. However, the explosive nature of all fireworks means they require safe handling to prevent injury or fire. If you are planning to use consumer fireworks, follow these safety tips:

  • Adult supervision at all times
  • Avoid loose clothing
  • Only use fireworks outside on your own property and never near dry shrubs or grass
  • Do not shoot fireworks in the middle of the street
  • Stand back! Always ensure there are several feet between spectators and any fireworks
  • Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby
  • Call 911 immediately if an injury occurs
    • Call the Gilbert Police Department's non-emergency number at (480) 503-6500 if you observe illegal firework usage to ensure the 911 system is not overwhelmed
  • Only use legal consumer fireworks

At SERVPRO of Gilbert, Chandler South, Ahwatukee, and South Tempe, we want to wish all of you a safe and happy Fourth of July!

Do You Know Your ABC's?

1/14/2022 (Permalink)

Depending on the agent that fuels them, fires can typically be classified into one of five different categories. Each type of fire involves different flammable materials and requires a special approach. Therefore, it is important to understand the five classes of fires and how to properly extinguish them without causing further damage.

Class A

Involving solid combustible materials such as wood, paper, cloth, trash, or plastic, Class A fires are the most common types of fire. In addition to being the most common fire, Class A fires are also the easiest to extinguish. It is recommended to use a water or foam fire extinguisher, or water to douse the fire.

Class B

Class B fires involve flammable liquids like oil, alcohol, or gasoline. More specifically, liquids or gasses like petroleum grease, alcohol, paint, propane, or gasoline; not cooking oils or grease. When faced with a Class B fire, it is very important not to use a water extinguisher as the stream of water might spread the material rather than extinguish it. Instead, use a foam, powder, or carbon dioxide extinguisher to cut off a fire’s oxygen supply.

Class C

Class C fires require a source of electricity. Therefore, they may be started by old wiring, worn-out breaker boxes, frayed electrical cords, or faulty appliances. Common in both households and industrial settings, it is important to, first, disconnect the appliance or item from its power source as long as it is safe to do so. Then, if possible, extinguish the flames using a carbon dioxide or dry powder fire extinguisher. Do not use water or foam to put out an electrical fire, as both materials can conduct electricity and potentially make the situation more dangerous.

Class D

Most rare among each class of fire, Class D fires can happen when metal ignites. This typically requires high levels of heat and is most common when alkali metals are exposed to air or water. Although you are unlikely to encounter a Class D blaze in your home, it is advised that such fires be extinguished with a dry powder extinguisher only.

Class K

Termed as Class K fires, this classification is comprised of fires involving cooking oils such as vegetable oil or animal fats. The high flashpoints of cooking oils and fats make Class K fires most likely to start when a pan is left unattended on a stove. If possible, it is important to turn off the heat on any cooking appliances and remove them from the heat source. Then, similarly to how Class B fires are treated, avoid using water to extinguish the fire. Instead, opt for a wet chemical extinguisher.

Regardless of the classification or the extent of its damage, SERVPRO of Gilbert, Chandler South, Ahwatukee and South Tempe is fully equipped to clean and restore your home or property should it be affected by fire; “like it never even happened.” Call us at (480) 558-7620 or visit our website for more information.

Holiday HOT Topics

12/22/2021 (Permalink)

Inevitably, end-of-year holiday celebrations create crazy memories and unforgettable events. Unfortunately, a packed house, massive meals, and holiday festivities make them fire-prone and invite a plethora of cooking mishaps and kitchen misfires. As we approach the annual holiday traditions, we have compiled a list of safety tips to keep you and your family safe and ensure that festivities ensue without a hitch.

  • When cooking food on the stop top, make sure that there is always someone in the kitchen to keep an eye on the food.
  • When cooking turkey, stay in the home and check on it frequently.
  • Unless highly experienced, avoid frying the turkey as it puts you at an increased risk of sustaining a cooking fire.
  • Keep children away from the stove.
  • When handling hot food or liquids, keep children away. The steam or splash from vegetables, gravy, coffee, or other high-temperature materials can cause severe burns.
  • Keep knives out of children’s’ reach.
  • Be cognizant of electric cords as they should not lie within the reach of children.
  • Store matches and utility lighters out of the reach of children and away from flames.
  • Keep lit candles out the reach of children and away from curtains or other flammable materials.
  • Keep floors clear, especially those in the kitchen or dining areas, to prevent tripping or slipping.
  • Test smoke alarms to certify that they are working before company arrives.

As a cleaning and restoration company, SERVPRO of Gilbert, Chandler South, Ahwatukee and South Tempe has seen its fair share of holiday season fires. To ensure enjoyable celebrations throughout the year's end, please be cognizant of your surroundings and take the proper precautions. Do You Know What To Do in the Case of a Fire?

12/17/2021 (Permalink)

As the weather cools, we heat our homes to stay warm. Sadly, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), "… More than one-quarter of reported fires in 2015-2019 occurred in homes. Even worse, three-quarters (75%) of civilian fire deaths and 72% of all reported injuries were caused by home fires."

This is why it is essential to know what do after a fire strikes.

  • In the event you need temporary housing, contact your local Red Cross.
  • Stay in touch with the fire department. Find out when it is safe to return to your home or business. Keep in mind there could be hidden structural damage. It is best if you wait to enter until a trained professional restoration company is on site.
  • Do not turn on utilities until you are told it is safe to do so by the fire department. And, do not turn the services on yourself.
  • Contact your insurance company for detailed instructions. They can let you know how to protect your property in the short term; give specific instructions on how to conduct an inventory assessment. They will provide you a list of restoration companies. SERVPRO is a full-service restoration company.
  • Save all receipts for any expenditures you may have related to fire loss. The receipts will be needed later by the insurance company to verify your losses.
  • Make sure to notify your mortgage company about the fire.

If you do have a fire in your home or business, SERVPRO of Gilbert, Chandler South, Ahwatukee and South Tempe is available 24/7 to help! We are a certified and trained restoration company who pride ourselves on treating all tragedies with compassion and knowledge.

Fireplace Hazards and Safe Practices

10/22/2021 (Permalink)

Nearly half of all home-heating fires and hospital visits can be attributed to improper or unsafe use of fireplaces. Therefore, we at SERVPRO want to keep you informed about safe fireplace practices. As temperatures begin to decrease and the holiday season approaches, we encourage families to gather around the flames as desired and apply safe habits that minimize the threat of an uncontrolled fire.

  1. Burn safe materials – It is important that you only burn natural materials in your fireplace. This includes tinder (e.g. pine needles or tiny sticks), kindling (e.g. small sticks or pinecones), and fuel (e.g. large logs). Never introduce foreign substances such as cardboard, newspaper, and paper trash as they burn poorly, produce a lot of smoke, and release chemicals into the air.
  2. Avoid using flammable liquids to start fires – The volatile nature of gas means that you should never put it in your fireplace as it could easily cause an uncontrolled fire. It is best to simply use matches and tinder, however, if you require an accelerant to start your fire, use a small amount of lighter fluid.
  3. Clean out the ashes after every fire – Regularly clearing your fireplace of ashes will prevent live coals from burning while you are away while simultaneously keeping your fireplace clean and visually attractive.
  4. Keep a fireplace screen in front of the fireplace when in use – A fireplace screen (3 ft. high or taller) will catch live sparks that leap out of the fire and prevent large logs from falling out. This ensures that the fire does not spread beyond its non-flammable containment and that nearby persons are not injured.

We understand that while temperatures remain in the upper 90s, fireplace safety seems unnecessary. However, we are soon to experience cooler weather and hope to preemptively equip you with the knowledge necessary to safely operate your fireplace.

If your home is affected by a fire, due to a fireplace mishap or otherwise, call SERVPRO of Gilbert, Chandler South, Ahwatukee and South Tempe at (480) 558-7620 for fire cleanup and reconstruction services.

STOP, DROP, & ROLL

10/4/2021 (Permalink)

There is little scarier than the threat of a fire to your home or business. Whether you consider the potential hazards it poses to your safety, or to the integrity of your property, notions of a fire can create panic. At SERVPRO of Gilbert, Chandler South, Ahwatukee and South Tempe, we are committed to restoring your home to pre-damage conditions in the case that a fire occurs. However, we want to also equip you with the knowledge necessary to ensure the safety of you, your family, and your friends if a fire develops in a building you occupy.

If a Fire Starts:

  • Know how to safely operate a fire extinguisher.
  • Remember to get out, stay out, and call 911 or your local emergency phone number.
  • Yell “Fire!” several times and go outside right away. If you live in a building with elevators, use the stairs. Leave all your things where they are and save yourself.
  • If closed doors handles are warm or smoke blocks your primary escape route, use your second way out. Never open doors that are warm to the touch.
  • If you must escape through smoke, get low and go under the smoke to your exit. Close all doors behind you.
  • If smoke, heat, or flames block your exit routes, stay in the room with doors closed. Place a wet towel under the door and call the fire department or 911. Open a window and wave a brightly colored cloth or flashlight to signal for help.
  • Once you are outside, go to your meeting place and then send one person to call the fire department. If you cannot get to your meeting place, follow your family emergency communication plan.

If Your Clothes Catch on Fire:

STOP what you are doing.

DROP to the ground and cover your face if possible.

ROLL over and over or back and forth until the flames go out.

THEN, once the flames are out, cool the burned skin with water for three to five minutes. Call for medical attention

Fires aren’t occurrences you can predict, but planning for the potential hazard can make all the difference in affecting the extent of damage to your property and the continued safety of those inside the building.

If a fire does occur, call SERVPRO for your cleaning and restoration needs at (480) 558-7620; we remain dedicated to returning your home to its previous condition, “Like it never even happened.”

Common Household Fire Hazards and How to Mitigate Them

9/1/2020 (Permalink)

For many people, thoughts of their home are closely associated with the ideas of “comfort” and “safety.” Your home does, however, shelter potential fire hazards as well. And, although that should not instill fear, it is important that you be aware of how to mitigate the threat of those common household hazards.

Reports by the National Fire Protection Association state that between the years of 2012 and 2016, approximately 355,400 home structure fires occurred every year; many of which could have been prevented with simple precautions. Most frequently, they are instigated by the improper usage of electrical appliances, heating-related mishaps, or kitchen blunders.

To avoid fires started by electronic appliances, it important that you do not use electronics that have frayed, loose, or cracked wiring. Also, be aware of the placement of cords or wires in relation to rugs and doorways. Wires under rugs can catch easily and those in front of doors are likely to be damaged. It is also crucial to remain aware of how many electronics are plugged into outlets or extension cords. Do not overload them and use covers on unused outlets, particularly if there are small children in the home. Lastly, when using light bulbs, ensure that you do not exceed the maximum voltage noted on the light or light fixture.

Heating-related fires happen most commonly with space heaters. Thus, the best way to avoid them is to place them at least three feet away from anything flammable. Further, keep flammable things away from and off of radiators.

Kitchen fires account for most house fires; causing 48% as opposed to 19% by electronics and 15% by heaters. The best method to preventing them is to stay in the kitchen when using the oven or stovetop. By regularly monitoring them, you are capable of quickly reacting to any unforeseen fire-causing accidents. Also, if you smell gas, do not turn anything on. Instead, remove any occupants from the house and call your gas company to report a gas leak.

House fires are scary, dangerous, and damaging, so being informed of practices that help prevent them can be crucial. However, should a fire occur in your home, SERVPRO of Gilbert, Chandler South, Ahwatukee and South Tempe can restore your home to a condition that meets or exceeds the state which it earlier existed. We promise to make it seem “Like it never even happened.”

Wildfire Safety Tips

7/22/2020 (Permalink)

Tips for homeowners living in the High Sonoran Desert to prevent damage to your property from wildfires:

  • Establish a “defensible safety zone.” Around your home or property, remove dry and dead vegetation so as to prevent highly flammable materials from collecting near your home.
  • Maintain your trees. Trim the canopies and remove dead branches or accumulations of flash fuels and leaves below the tree. This is especially important within the “defensible safety zone.”
  • Clear areas beneath wooden decks and overhangs of flammable items such as foliage.
  • Keep gutters, eaves, and roofs clear of debris.

Our IICRC Trained Professionals Are Ready To Restore Your San Tan Valley Home After Fire Damage

4/10/2019 (Permalink)

Our professionals will make your home safe to live in again after a fire. We are available 24/7 so don't hesitate to call us right away.

Quick Restoration of Fire Damage in San Tan Valley

Fire starts quickly and spreads throughout the affected property if you do not take immediate measures to contain it. Even a small blaze from a grease fire in the kitchen can leave widespread damages because as the flames leap into the air, they scotch fixtures within reach, such as shelves or cabinets. Smoke is also likely to spread deposits such as soot all over the premises complicating the restoration process or lengthen the time taken. We offer professional restoration services in San Tan Valley expediting the process.

Immediately after an incident of fire damage in San Tan Valley, it is essential to establish what the blaze affects. Fires may change the structure, contents or both. The level of damage also varies in each case. Proper evaluation of the affected areas helps establish salvageable and unsalvageable items fast. At SERVPRO we have IICRC certified Fire and Smoke Restoration Technicians who separate the altered items into groups of salvageable, unsalvageable and questionable items thus streamlining the restoration process.

Restoration processes such as cleaning contents take time because residues like soot and aerosols penetrate deep into the affected materials. The combination of heat from the flames and convection currents exacerbate the penetration by opening up pores in materials and driving the particles respectively. Our SERVPRO technicians use advanced equipment such as ultrasonic machines to clean contents efficiently. We also use soda blasting equipment which blows sodium bicarbonate particles over scotched surfaces restoring them without ruining the affected materials further. The process also helps deodorize the areas treated thus shortening the restoration process.

Soot and other residues from the fire have acidic properties which stain chrome and similar metallic finishes. They also affect stone surfaces such as marble. Our SERVPRO technicians pre-clean such materials and apply a thin oil film preventing stains which would lengthen the restoration process.

SERVPRO Rushes to Your Gilbert Home to Mitigate Fire Damage and Odors

Gilbert Homeowners Rest Easy During Fire Damage Restoration When Our Green SERVPRO Truck Is on the Scene

Acting Fast on Fire Damage in Gilbert Is the Key to Minimizing Loss

We know when someone contacts our emergency response team to come to their Gilbert property after a fire, it is a stressful situation, and you need help when you call, not wishing to wait for regular business hours. Usually, within four hours of your initial call, our technicians arrive on site to begin the process of cleaning up and restoring your residential or commercial property.

Why Fast Action is Necessary Against Fire Damage

The more time that passes between fire and cleanup efforts, the more the soot and odors have the opportunity to embed deeper and spread. During your initial phone call to SERVPRO, the emergency response technician gives tips if you are remaining in the home to lessen the spread of soot and smoke residue to unaffected areas of the property.

Once SERVPRO of Gilbert technicians are at the property, they immediately determine the scope and scale of the fire, to where it spread and the amount of damage. For localized fires in a portion of a home or business, our technicians contain the area by putting up barriers to limit the spread of soot and concentrate environmental cleaning efforts. Water is frequently a part of fire damage. Any standing water left from firefighting efforts is extracted immediately, and the area set up with air movers and dehumidifiers to dry quickly.

Specialized Cleaning Methods are Needed for Fire Damage

Mitigation of fire loss does not have a single solution. There are different types of smoke and knowing which type or types our technicians are dealing with is vital to choosing the proper cleaning methods, that is why we never guess, we test. The types we encounter most often are:

Wet smoke - can be thick, smears when rubbed. Most often associated with burning plastics and synthetic materials.

Dry smoke-produces a dry, powder-like residue, most often associated with burned paper or wood.

Protein-generally does not produce a visible smoke residue, however, can stain paints or varnish and often leaves a calling card of a very pungent odor.

Fuel or Oil Soot-most often occurs with furnace puff back events. Soot tags, resembling spider webs, can be challenging for a smear-free removal.

Cleaning Methods for Soot and Ash

Once the type of residue is determined, our local Gilbert area technicians get to work using the proper type for wet or dry cleaning as appropriate. Multiple kinds of residues can be found in a single area depending on the types of items that were burned in the fire. Ash is acidic and the longer it remains on walls, floors, and objects, the more they can deteriorate.

The structure is wiped down and depending on the type of wall covering, that may be enough to remove the residue. In cases where the soot has penetrated too deeply, or the surfaces are marred, SERVPRO cleans to "prepare for painting." This action deodorizes, limits VOC volatile organic compounds, and readies the surface to accept a new coat of paint with proper adherence.

Our technicians are trained in the remediation of fire damaged contents. Our goal is always to restore instead of replacing whenever possible. Nothing is thrown away without the permission of the property owner. Our technicians use their training to deep clean porous items such as upholstered furnishings, draperies and rugs. Other items such as electronics, wood furnishings, and kitchen items may be cleaned in place or removed and sent to our facility for cleaning. A full list of things removed for cleaning is provided to the adjuster and owner to ensure everyone is informed of each step of the cleanup.

Removing Reminders: Odor Control

Deodorization of a property after a fire requires more than spraying the area with a coverup scent. That is a short term solution that does nothing to neutralize the cause of the odor. SERVPRO technicians are certified in odor control methods and have various techniques to control and neutralize residual smoke odors spending on the level of treatment needed.

Air scrubbers fitted with HEPA filters can capture odor-causing soot particles as small as 0.3 microns, the average human eye can see down to around 40 microns. When the residues, soot, and ash are removed through cleaning the structure, contents, and air, in many cases the odor is diminished enough no further mitigation is necessary.

In cases where more robust odor control efforts are needed such as with protein fires, thermal fogging is another method our technicians use frequently. Using an odor-busting solvent heated and delivered as a fog, a technician spreads it over the same pathways as the smoke when the fire occurred. The solvent penetrates and overtakes smokey odors effectively neutralizing them in porous objects.

The HVAC can spread soot, and our technicians do a thorough inspection and cleaning if needed of the ductwork to ensure there are no lingering reminders of the fire whenever the heat or cooling is turned on.

Restoration and Building Services

Once your property has been cleaned and odors neutralized, there are often areas of the home or business that require repair or even rebuilding as they were not restorable through cleaning efforts. Charred drywall or damaged paint on walls from fire fighting efforts may need replacing or repainting to return to their preloss condition. Instead of having the headache of coordinating with a general contractor, SERVPRO offers these services to you.

If it is something as small as boarding up windows or placing a tarp on a damaged roof to completely rebuilding a fire damaged room from the ground up, our owner has over 20-years experience as a general contractor, and under his guidance, our technicians have the expertise and equipment to rebuild your loss.

SERVPRO of Gilbert knows that fire damage never takes a day off and when you need us, our emergency response team arrives on site within hours after your initial call. Our goal is to use our equipment and training to make your fire loss "Like it never even happened."

Why SERVPRO Is The Leader In Fire Damage Restoration In Gilbert

Our certified technicians are ready to restore your home 24/7 after a fire. We have the equipment and experience to make your house like new.

What to Expect from Professional Fire Cleanup in Gilbert

The aftermath of a fire in your Gilbert home can be frightening and chaotic. It is likely you and your family have not experienced anything close to the debris, soiling, and odors left when the firefighters leave. A complex set of tasks must be completed using special tools, products, and methods to bring your home back to preloss condition. Hire our professional team for the most successful outcome.

When controlling a blaze in your Gilbert home, the response is no holds barred, fire cleanup is assessed and planned.  This is based not only on what the flames consumed and the smoke damaged but also according to the impact made by the methods used to extinguish and limit the fire.

Everything necessary is done to knock down a fire. This often includes spraying large quantities of water and chemicals on the structural components and content of your home. Wet floors pose a slip and fall hazard, and can also expose SERVPRO workers and your family to the risk of electrical shock. Unremediated water is also incredibly destructive to building materials. Because of these reasons, SERVPRO crews attend to water removal and structural drying prior to smoke and soot cleanup.

Once the water evacuates our IICRC-trained technicians attack the sooty coatings throughout your home. SERVPRO has different tools and products to match with the characteristics of different soots. Dry, ashy soot from paper or wood fire brush off or vacuum up. Thick, sticky soot from fabric or electrical fires require a cleaning product with surfactants to loosen the debris. Kitchen fires produce a thin, highly adhesive protein-based soot that might need agitation or abrasive tools or cleaners to clear.

Lingering smells from the fire need elimination. SERVPRO works through an odor management protocol starting with the removal of burned items and thorough cleaning. If smells remain we try thermal fogging, where we recreate the conditions of the fire, combusting deodorizers in a heat chamber to cause particles to bond together and neutralize the smell. Hydroxyl generators are also an option, creating tiny particles that change the odor-bearing bits at a molecular level.

SERVPRO of Gilbert has trained employees, products, and equipment to restore a fire-damaged home fast. Call us at (480) 558-7620 as soon as the fire truck departs.

Wildfire Season: Be Prepared

5/27/2016 (Permalink)

Wildfires are devastating to our landscape, property and wildlife and especially dangerous to residents and firefighters.

This kit can be made portable and be kept in your car.

If fire damages your property, it can throw your life into chaos. Even if your property doesn’t suffer fire damage, there may be smoke and soot residues left to clean up. If cleaned improperly, the effects and odors can linger long after the fire is put out. From the structure to the contents, SERVPRO used the latest training and technology to leave your property smelling fresh and clean.
