A Water Loss May Require a Creative Solution

Your home can find itself in the middle of a water loss very suddenly and, unfortunately, there is no cookie-cutter solution for water damage. Depending on the source of the damage, how the water spread, and what has been impacted, the way to fix the problem may vary. The complications of a water loss are precisely why you should call for professional help as soon as possible. Quickly getting a team of technicians to the scene can help prevent further damage.

Jordan, an employee of SERVPRO of Gilbert, explains how his team handled a water loss in a local Chandler house. "We discovered the ARO system had been leaking for a little while underneath the kitchen sink." An ARO system is meant to provide the kitchen in your home with fresh and clean drinking water. As the device leaked, it spread water underneath the kitchen cabinets and toward the back wall behind them, as well as soaking the floors. The solution that Jordan's team employed was creative and helped minimize further costs inside of the home.

Jordan and his team "cut the backside of the drywall all the way around and knocked out the toe-kicks to try and save the cabinets and dry them in place as best as possible." Flood cuts are a relatively common method of removing damaged material without removing the entire panel of drywall. Doing so not only allows the water-soaked materials to be taken away, which could be a mold colony risk if they were left alone, but also allows unobstructed airflow underneath the cabinetry. Jordan and his team found that there was "no backing on the cabinets," which allowed them to dry the cabinets in place as well as the impacted drywall. Having airflow from two sides maximizes the chances that all of the excess moisture can evaporate.
